Did some cooking today - which I haven't done outside of little things - like making sandwiches for the week. It was fun and gave me the motivation to want to do it regularly on a larger scale again than that night's dinner.

Went to Chapel Street's volunteer meeting tonight to see what was going to happen next year and came away with them knowing that I'm interested in doing stuff next year. And it looks like I'm going to be assistant stage managing the One Acts to see how I like it and I *might* be light designer for a show next spring.

Another show down, two more to go. Tomorrow's going to be... interesting because we have two shows - a matinee and an evening. The girls are usually ready to go by the end of one performance, it'll be interesting to see how they handle two shows. I might have to get creative. Or the gaffe tape.

Speaking of gaffe tape - I had to get a piece to cover a hole in one of the dressing room couches and when I asked one of the cast if they'd seen the black gaffe tape, they replied seriously, "Are you going to use it on the girls?" To which I joked, "Not yet."

I'm going to have to rent the movie version so I can actually see what it's about. :-P

It's now the second intermission for the last show of the One Acts. We've had some good audiences, which is good. And we won't know which one will be representing us until after tomorrow.

All three are good, and they're quite different. One is an original work that's basically a screwball comedy. Another is an Edward Albee one act, The Zoo Story. And the third is Tennessee Williams' And Tell Sad Stories of the Death of Queens....

And Dave does a great job with Karl in the third - by the end of it, everyone hates his character (which is necessary). Gina, his wife, said, "Don't you just want to punch him or kick him?" And I said, "Well, that's kind of the point, isn't it?" And she replied, "Yeah, but I'm his wife!"

Good thing tonight was the preview and not an actual show. (Previews are technically a show, and we run it as a show, but the audience is forewarned that if it's necessary to stop, we will.)

Some of the stage crew started striking the set during a scene change instead of just prepping it for the next scene.

But other than that, it was good. And I think it did the actors good to have someone who isn't on crew to see the show and give them feedback.

Here's hoping we have a good weekend. :-)

The last show of the season finished up yesterday. And afterwards we had a party at Scott's house. I left a few minutes before 4 am.

I didn't get to sleep until after 4:45. I got up at about 8:15 to go to the beach today with my dad. (He said he was surprised I got up, but come on, it's the beach!)

Today was good and very relaxing. Even if it was still really hot.

Day 27 - Best pilot episode

I think the "Leverage" pilot was the best. It was fun, a little quirky, had action and good dialogue. It was just awesome.

I feel really good. I wrote 1600 words for my SGAreversebang fic today and I wrote another 800-ish words between a few other fics that I was figuring out what to do with. (I have *waaay* too many started.) So I feel a little less schizophrenic now.

Opening weekend of You Can't Take It With You also went well and we had a good audience both nights. Here's hoping it continues the next two weekends.

Day 12 - An episode you’ve watched more than 5 times

I don't know if there's an episode that I've watched *more* than five times. The closest I can think of is watching the pilot of SGA four times.

Okay, so technically it's 12:30, but I'm still operating on Friday, so....

Having the tea yesterday, and then a cup tonight definitely helped. I think I'm going to have to wean myself off of it this time instead of going cold turkey like I have previously.

I sat in on California Suite tonight, since I haven't done anything with the show for a week and a half and I'm going to be picking it up on Sunday. It was fun seeing it with an audience.

Afterwards, most of us went to Scott's for a party. It was nice getting to hang out and socialize.

Day 23 - A song that you want to play at your wedding

Something appropriately schmoopy. Like "Gotta Be Somebody" by Nickelback.

Had a production meeting for today for Chapel Street's production of Neil Simon's California Suite, after which the crew watched a run-through of the show. It's a lot of fun and I'm sure it's going to be really good once we've got lights and sound with it and the odds and ends are done on the set. :-D

The itching is getting better. But I hate that I'm still itching. And it even says on the packaging that itching may continue for up to TWO WEEKS and isn't considered a "failure of treatment". Sigh. So I basically have to wait for two weeks to see if it's really worked.

Thankfully, the show went really well tonight and we had a good (and fairly large) crowd. It was a lot of fun.

Got to hang out with friend H today - which was really nice. We've known each other practically since we were in diapers and were best friends growing up, but we've grown apart since we graduated high school and our lives took slightly different directions, even though we still live close. And we made promises to do more in the near future - which I'm really hoping we can.

Tonight was my tech rehearsal/dress rehearsal/preview show for the Chapel Street Review that we're doing tomorrow and it was the stage manager's second. Thankfully, it all went well. It's fairly simple, though, and most of the cues are just bringing lights up and down at the beginning and ends of the acts and two sound cues. It's fun though. The songs span different musicals that were done at CSP over the years, since this is its 75th anniversary.

Today was the last of A Christmas Carol. It was a fun show, but I'm glad it's over. We had the closing party at the stage manager's house. And since it's the second night of Hannukah, we had latkes (regular potato and sweet potato) and we lit the menorah.

Currently, I can speak Spanish and American Sign Language, though I haven't really used either of them in a while (but I want to get back into them), so I'm probably not as fluent as I used to be, but I'm sure I could get by if needed. And I'd like to learn Scots Gaelic. I'm not sure why - I guess just because it seems so different from all the other languages.

This week wasn't bad, but I'm really glad it's the weekend.

The show went well tonight, but I skipped out of the party afterwards because I wanted some time alone.

Comment on tonight's SGU episode and SGA )

I've got a question about Queer as Folk. )

It feels weird to be doing a Christmas show in November. I had rehearsal tonight for an adaptation of Christmas Carol that Chapel Street's putting on. It's a quick show, but I think it's going to be fun.

Finding plane tickets to Portland is a pain in the butt. :-(

It feels like there's too many options!

We had another good matinee today - which makes me happy. Hopefully we'll get three good audiences next weekend.

Afterwards, one of the actors had everyone over to his place - which was up in Pennsylvania off 476 (off the Lima/Springfield exit). It was fun hanging out with everyone. And we all had to laugh when our host was checking on everyone while we were eating (we were split between the living room and a small sitting room) and he had commented that all the "young people" had moved into the living room and all the "old people" were in the sitting room.

Just scared myself a few minutes ago by spilling some tea on my laptop. Thankfully, my brother was very nice and between the two of us we had everything cleaned up and dried out. And so far it's working fine. I commented to [livejournal.com profile] luvxander that I need to start drinking out of sippy cups again and that I need to stop scaring myself with my laptop.

We had another good audience tonight for the show. Yay for that.

******

And I think everyone should rent Mulligans. It stars Dan Payne and is about getting second chances.

We had a good show and an amazing audience tonight. It's fun when they're really into it. There was clapping at the end of a few scenes that we weren't expecting and a lot of laughter - which we were hoping for - and even some "ooohs" and such.

******

Yesterday, I decided to be proactive and I booked a room for The Con Con (the Leverage con), figuring that I'd probably need to call later and adjust the reservation in one way or another before the con happened.

Then I saw this tweet from Dean Devlin this morning - "please hold off booking rooms for #concon until dates are settled. I promise to have that info soon. it's coming together nicely"

And now I'm a little worried. But I worry anyway when I plan a trip until I know what's going on - just ask [livejournal.com profile] nakedwesley. :-P

Okay, so technically, it's 12:30 am Sunday, but I'm filing this under Saturday, since I still think it's Saturday.

I was actually home last night before midnight, which was a bit of a surprise. And the show went well last night too.

Today was a good, relaxing day. I watched this week's episodes of "Heroes", "Castle", and "The Mentalist" and worked on editing my SGA Big Bang story.

Tonight's show went very well again. There was a younger crowd than last night, which is good. (We do love the old folks who come to the theatre, but it's nice seeing a younger crowd.) And it's interesting hearing where people laugh - there were some instances where the folks last night laughed where the folks tonight didn't and vice versa, and times when neither group laughed and I'm thinking, "That's funny! Why aren't you laughing?"

Afterwards, a bunch of us went out to Iron Hill Brewery for drinks and food. I was able to hold my own at making small talk and it was fun. (And, yes, I did have an Electric Blue Martini and creme brulee.) And it was fun listening to Walt and Walt talking about some of their travels. (They've been together for nine years and they're *adorable*.)

I walked the block back to the theatre with them, J.R., and Tina and found my car was mostly still parked in. (I could get out, but I'd have to do some *very* *careful* wiggling. And I was like, "Oh, I'll go back to the restaurant, since they're finishing up, and see who's got which car." But Short Walt got to thinking and between him and Tina, they manuevered me out (with me going, "I can wait!"). And then Jeff and Marcia came up and were watching us and Jeff and Tall Walt helped some too. And Marcia was taking pictures with her phone.

I love this theatre company. :-D

We had our final dress rehearsal/preview tonight and it went well - which is good. We had maybe half a dozen people in the audience, which we needed to help gauge reactions to lines and such and I think they definitely helped.

Funny quotes:

One of the acresses, "Ow. I hit my arm on the pteradactyl." (She actually hit it on what our stage manager has been calling a peridactoid - it's a triangle type set piece.)

One of the actors, who's a solid guy and wearing a bald cap, "I've been doing the voice of the Wrath of God and now you want me to have the presence of the Wrath of God too?"
Tanya, the director, "You're not the Wrath of God, you're Daddy Warbucks."

Hopefully this means tomorrow night's opener will go well.

And how is it October all ready?
sam_gamgee: (Default)
Tonight felt like the longest rehearsal ever. I got home around 10:45.

And I'm sleepy, but my brain's still running. *headdesk*

I think I've got enough in me to finish editing the last few pages of my SGA Big Bang before bed.
sam_gamgee: (Default)
I felt good today, even if I kept waking up practically every hour last night. *sigh* And I'll be glad when my arm's healed. It'll make *so* many things - like sleeping in a comfortable position - so much easier.

We had a cue-to-cue this afternoon, which went well. (Cue-to-cue is when we strictly run through the light and sound cues to make sure they work, timed right, everyone's hitting their marks, getting their visuals, etc.) After the dinner break, we were supposed to do a run-through, but since the director hadn't been there for the cue-to-cue, we did another one. While I get that it was important to make sure that things were going the way the director wanted, I was bored for most of the second act, since I only had one thing to do in the third scene. At least I had a book and I knew my boothmate, so we talked. I think tomorrow I might take my laptop for the run-through, so I can work on finishing up editing my rough draft of the SGA Big Bang, before I give it to anyone to beta.
