Jul. 2nd, 2008 11:57 pmSince Shore Leave is about a week and a half away, tonight I watched David Hewlett's movie, Treed Murray (aka Get Down in the US.) It was a really good movie and I highly recommend it.
And with Shore Leave drawing near, I've been thinking of the last time I went to it - which was a number of years ago when I was still fairly new to the whole fandom thing, let alone the con thing. Shore Leave was actually the second con I went to alone.
(My first ever con was this little thing up in King of Prussia, PA, at the Scanticon hotel - some of you know where I'm talking about - that my dad took me to. My first con by myself was to CreepCon in Baltimore.)
It's funny because I remember at that Shore Leave I knew
nakedwesley and maybe one other person and I had never been to something so big. I remember walking into the lobby and seeing two Klingon Storm Troopers and thinking "Ooooh-kaaaay" and later that weekend being really amused by the guy selling a Shakespearean play that had been translated into Klingon. This was also the first time I had heard of zines and randomly fell into the Kiefer/Lou fandom through some of the zines Agent With Style was selling. And the whole thing was just *wow*.
This time, it's still wow, but I'm like, "Okay, I need to remember to bring the Coke rewards for Mysti and the Pepsi rewards for
kimberlyfdr." And squeeing over getting to see
nakedwesley, D,
mashfanficchick,
mirnell, and
kimberlyfdr.
Oh, random thought,
nakedwesley - what do you think about me bringing stuff to make 808s?

Date: 2008-07-03 04:18 pm (UTC)Do you guys have plans for Thursday night? I'm working but could come down after. Haven't decided whether to stay the night or go on home. What's the hotel situation for that night? D is flying in on Friday. We've got the extra room booked starting then.
Can't believe it's only another week! I love Treed Murray. I think that was the first of David's movies I saw, when I first got into SGA fandom. I was really impressed. *uses appropriate icon for subject matter only*

Date: 2008-07-04 02:50 am (UTC)As of right now, the plans are to hang out, as far as I know. We've got a hotel room for that night and there's space - as far as I know, there's a half a bed with me and the floor. And if you do come down, I think you should stay - it'll cut out a bunch of driving and such.
I can't believe it's only a week either! It used to feel like so long ago and now it's practically here! LOL. Treed Murray was great. :-D I really need a David and/or Rodney icon.
