We ended up actually not going to the zoo on Friday because of going to get
soft_princess and Vanessa's bag. Which they were obviously thrilled about. (As were
jacklemmon and I.) But we did go to the National Cowboy Museum - which was very cool. We didn't get to see all of it because we only had an hour and a half there, but we got through a fair amount and had a great time. (But I am upset that the only thing they had on the Pony Express was one little statue.) And the shuttle was about 45-60 minutes late picking us up.
We did go to the zoo on Saturday, though. (And we came to the consensus that it was a good distraction for Vanessa because this older boy she had a crush on left that morning.) We spent about six hours there and had a great time. It's a really nice zoo. There were a lot of kids there, but they were really well-behaved. It was hot, though. I drank two and a half 20 oz bottles of water and had a medium-ish sized soda and only had to use the bathroom once the entire time. Let's just say that that's really not normal for me. We had to laugh that aside from the sea lions and seals, the most active animals were the Galapagos tortoises and one of the Egyptian tortoises (which was zooming around its terrarium doing laps). The shuttle was an hour and a half late picking us up. We hung out in the room a bit to cool off and get something to eat, then
soft_princess,
jacklemmon, and I went in the pool, but we didn't stay very long because there were a lot of kids. We went up to the room and packed some, then watched some vids.
This morning, we got up and had breakfast, then finished packing and checked out. Vanessa's 4-year-old "boyfriend" had left earlier that morning, and had been rather heartbroken and cried, so one of his relatives called him, so Vanessa could say goodbye to him.
jacklemmon's mom picked us up and and took me to the airport where we all said good-bye. The flights were pretty easy, though we waited on the Dallas/Ft Worth tarmac for an extra hour because of storms on the east coast. (I flew into Terminal C and out of Terminal A this time.) And on my flight was this guy that looked remarkably similiar to a guy I went to school with. There were a few very subtle differences, but - wow. (I know it wasn't him because I asked.) I read "Coming Home" by
xanthestories pretty consistently from the time I got to the gate in the OKC airport through to being dropped off by my shuttle at my truck and got through about 165 pages of it (almost 3/4 of it). I love that fic (and "General and Dr. Sheppard"). The drive wasn't bad and only took about an hour and a half. I did stop at the Baltimore bus station's McDonald's to get something to eat and a soda, though. (The one where that
connexions has been at.) And I listened to Common Rotation on the way home - which was fun.
I'm feeling mixed right now about being home. Usually by the time I get home, I'm happy to be home and ready to get back into the routine of things. This time, though, I just wanted to cry. I think things have been building up to this, though, over the past few weeks (maybe month and a half?). I'm starting to feel like I don't belong in certain places any more and I don't know what to do. Like, I'm really thinking it's time to get a new job, but I don't even know where to start. *sighs*
soft_princess and
jacklemmon - I'll email you guys the recs stuff. And
jacklemmon - I'll write up something to start the McBeck AU once I've had some sleep and post it and we can go from there.
