Lost another 1.8 pounds this past week on WW. May not be as fabulous as last week's 7.6, but I'm happy because a) I didn't gain anything and b) I lost *something*.

Sometimes I wonder about my family. When I told my mom yesterday that I had used some of my extra points on an unexpected craving, she was like, "You shouldn't do that!" while last week when she had gone over, I was very positive and motivational for her. From what you guys have heard about my family, how the the hell did I get to be so well-adjusted???

This was in this past Sunday's "USA Weekend":
Q: I saw what looked like a wedding ring on the left hand of "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy's" Ted Allen. Did he marry his longtime partner? - A. B., Lafayette, La.

A: "I'm glad someone noticed," says the 39-year-old food and wine expert. "We haven't gotten officially married, because we're so crazed with the show, but we're definitely going to." Allen's partner is Barry Rice, a journalism professor he met in Chicago 11 years ago; each has been wearing a ring that long. Their first rings were Irish Claddagh rings they wore on their right hands to distinguish themselves from straight married couples. Now they wear platinum bands, and Allen says he likes to get his on camera: "I'm proud of it."

Can I just say that that's gotta be one of the sweetest things ever?

Now off to finish Sofy's G/X porn that I had hoped to finish last night (stupid brother) and getting information for going up to NYC tomorrow (wheee! Hugh Jackman!).

Congrats on the weight loss. My roommate's mom works for weight watchers and she has told me on a regular basis, it is better to use extra points to satisfy a craving when it happens, than to ignore the craving until it becomes an obseesion. The obsession is the one that will add pounds back on you!

Thanks. And, yeah, that's what I figured - knowing how *I* am, anyway. :-D

Okay, that stuff about you being supportive of your mom, and her not being so supportive of you? You need to say that to her.
You're doing good, chica. Keep it up.

Oh, and Hugh Jackman...he could satisfy some cravings;)

Yeah, I know it does. I think sooner rather than later I'm either a) gonna go off on her (which I would reather not do, but it may be necessary) or b) be like, "Okay, you just said X things bad about me and eating, so now I want you to say X + 1 good things about the subject."

Thanks. :-)

Oh, yes he does!!! :-D

1. Getting rid of 1.8 pounds is *good*!

2. That's what the frellin' flex points are there for! I have another friend doing WW and she says that unless she eats every point alloted *plus* some flex points, she can't seem to get rid of anything. My meeting leaders are always talking about not under-eating, too. (And that's something I have a bad habit of doing.)

3. Your Mom. . . man, I got nothin' for you there. *sigh*

1. Yes it is!

2. I knew that this week was going to be hard, so I *knew* that I was going to need the extra points just to get me through this week so I could make sure that I stayed with this program.

3. I know, and I don't expect you to. But I'm beginning to think of different ways of dealing with her, so we'll see how that plays out.

Of course, I have vast Mom-experience (both sides of the two-edged sword, as a matter of fact). 99% of the time, even when it seems that we are out of our minds, we really want what's best for our kids.

We just don't always know how to express that thought.

So we flail. And whine. And nag. And act like your garden variety goof. And once in a while we get it right.

I know you guys do want what's best and don't know the best way of expressing it, but it's one of those things with my parents where they don't exactly seem to get the whole idea of, "you know, if it isn't working, maybe you should try something else."

Yep.

Oddly enough I was giving myself a pep talk yesterday and kept saying, "If it works for you, go with it. If it doesn't, fix it."

Easy for me to say, huh?
