"Here's your ice water," Lindsey said, handing the glass to Wesley, who was sitting on the couch.

"Thank you," Wesley replied with a smile, taking the glass and lifting his legs so Lindsey could sit down and he could place his feet in Lindsey's lap. He took a sip of water before placing the glass on the coffee table.

"How was work?" Lindsey asked as he began massaging Wesley's left foot.

"It was work." Wesley put the book he had been reading on the table next to his glass of water. "The new Watcher candidates are doing well. A number of them look very promising." After Lindsey worked out a small knot, Wesley said, "That feels good."

Lindsey just smiled as he continued massaging the foot. "Did you ever think that things would turn out this way?"

"Not in a million years," Wesley replied with a smile as he leaned his head against the back of the couch, temple and cheek resting against the velvet-like material. "And I don't regret it, if that's what you're angling for. Do you?"

"Not at all." They fell into a comfortable silence as Lindsey finished Wesley's right foot and started on his left. "I just...." He trailed off for a moment and Wesley could tell he was searching for the right thing to say. "It's just that we've been together for so long, I just want to make sure you're happy."

"Believe me, I'm very happy. What's gotten into you, that you're so sentimental?"

"I guess it's just because our fourteenth anniversary is coming up soon and I'm feeling a bit nostalgic." He paused again to think. "Or maybe morose. I don't know." He sighed and stopped his ministrations, but didn't take his hands away from Wesley's foot. "I just feel like maybe I'm holding you back."

Wesley leaned forward and took Lindsey's left hand in both of his own. "You're not. I love you and I love the life we've made together. I honestly fell for you while I was taking care of you after the coup at Wolfram & Hart. Are you happy with me?"

Lindsey nodded. "Yes. I love you more than anything. I guess I just have some residual guilt after all these years."

"Guilty about what?"

"Just...everything. There's so much that I did back then that I'm not proud of now."

Wesley leaned over and placed a light kiss on the back of Lindsey's hand. "And the things you've done to help Rupert, myself, and the rest of the group to get the new Watchers Council off the ground and keep it running has more than made up for it."

"But -"

"No 'buts'. Do you feel this way often?"

"Sometimes. Usually around this time of year for a few days, then it goes away."

"How long has it been going on?"

"Since the beginning."

Wesley's voice softened. "Why didn't you ever tell me?"

Lindsey shook his head. "I don't know. I was scared, I guess. And I didn't want you to worry."

Wesley pulled Lindsey against him and wrapped his arms around Lindsey. After placing a kiss on the top of Lindsey's head, he said, "I love you."

Lindsey relaxed against him. "I love you too."

"What do you think we should do for our anniversary?"

"I don't know. Weekend get-away? And why are you changing the subject? You never let me do that when we're talking about us."

"Because it's Friday night and I don't want a cloud hanging over the weekend, if I can help it." He place another kiss on Lindsey's hair and tightened his hold, as Lindsey wrapped his arms around Wesley's. "So, where would you like to go?"

Lindsey laid his head against Wesley's shoulder. "Remember that Scottish place we went to a few years ago?"

"Kircaldy or Inverness?"

"Kircaldy."

"Is that all you want?"

"Yes. What about you?"

"Only you." Wesley tilted Lindsey's chin back so he could kiss him lightly on the lips. "Always you."

Lindsey twisted in Wesley's embrace so he faced him and kissed him deeply. "Or we could always stay in that weekend," he said softly with a smile. "Unplug the phone, not answer the door - like we used to do."

Wesley gave Lindsey a smile that melted the younger man's insides. "Or we could do that." As he kissed Lindsey deeply again, he slipped his hands under Lindsey's t-shirt and began caressing his back.

Lindsey snaked a hand under Wesley's light sweater and teased a nipple to hardness.

Wesley let out a groan and broke off the kiss. Placing his forehead against Lindsey's, he said, "Are you trying to start something?"

"Maybe I am," Lindsey replied with a smirk.

"Just because I turned fifty earlier this year, it doesn't mean I don't have more endurance than you ever will."

"Which is one thing I am highly grateful for."

Wesley simply smiled and kissed his partner again before stripping off both of their shirts. They took their time to explore the familiarity of the other's mouths and torsos, not allowing a sense of urgency to guide their actions.

"I love you," Lindsey murmured between kisses.

"I love you too," Wesley replied.

"Do you think you'll ever make an honest man of me?" Lindsey asked, picking up the thread of an earler conversation.

"Depends." Wesley replied as he kissed the palm of Lindsey's right hand. "There's a lot of things to consider before we actually take the plunge. Besides, you're the one that's kept the dual citizenship, thinking it would come in handy one day. You could make an honest man out of me."

"Maybe it will," Lindsey replied as he beamed. "I've heard through the grapevine of a way it might work."

"Well, the grapevine will have to wait," Wesley replied stealing a kiss. "I have more important things on my mind at the moment."

"Such as?" Lindsey asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Oh, I don't know." Wesley slid a hand under the elastic of Lindsey's sweatpants and fondled him. "I can think of a number of things."

Lindsey gave Wesley a quick peck on the lips before carefully extracting himself and standing. He pulled Wesley off the couch and flush against him, and kissed him deeply. "Then why don't we go take care of those 'important things'?" he asked as he lead Wesley towards their bedroom.

Wesley smiled. "I'm definitely amenable to that."

Yep. You were *so* jossed.

That's the great thing about Alternative Universes. You can make things be the way you want them.

It's a good story, though. I like that nice, quiet tone. Old married couple and all that. . .
