Saw Van Helsing twice over the weekend - once with my dad and once with my mom.
I enjoyed it. I wasn't expecting it to be scary or anything, so wasn't let down there. I liked how they were sorta faithful to the canon of the books (Frankenstein moreso than Dracula, obviously.)
Didn't really care for the brides though. Couldn't they have found some really beautiful women who can also act? I'm sure there's some out there.
Speaking of not really caring - didn't really care for Anna either. I'm sure she could've been a pretty kick-ass character, but she wasn't. I'm sure that she could've done more than stand around and sulk and whine and pout when she didn't get her way. I could see Van Helsing falling in LUST with her, but not love.
Although, I love Carl. I think he kicks ass. He's so adorable. My brain is now mush just thinking about him. I need VH/C slash. For those of you who've seen the movie and watch "Alias", I want Carl/Marshall slash. Is this something I'm gonna have to write myself if I want to see it?
Highly amused that when I went with my dad, every once in a while, he'd lean over and be like, "Is that what really happened in the book?" or "Is that right?" Whereas with my mom, who is familiar with Dracula and, I'm pretty sure, Frankenstein, even if she hasn't read either in a few years, her question was, "Is that Mel?" (meaning Gibson and about Hugh Jackman) and this was asked right before the climatic battle between VH and Dracula. Go figure.
