Apr. 26th, 2004 10:44 amA couple weeks ago I decided to start writing down all the movies I wanted to see when I went to Blockbuster because a) I would always say "I want to see this movie, and this one and oooh, this one," but later I could never remember and b) it would save me time from wandering around Blockbuster trying to find a movie and repeating (a).
After sorting the movies out, watching a couple, and finding out that my university has some of them, and that there are others I can borrow, I've got the list down to 55 non-new releases that I want to see. (There's also a bunch of new releases and a couple ones that I kinda sorta want to see but aren't high priority on the list.)
Am very happy my mom decided to sign up for the Blockbuster rewards program a while back. I co-opted it not long after that (since she's never been as big into renting movies as I am), and it finally looks like it'll pay off. I'll be able to do a 2-for-1 on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays on the older movies, plus I'll be able to do a 'rent 5, get 1 free' thing. Wonder if both of the moives in the 2-for-1 will count towards the 5&1, must check it out.
So here's some comments the first batch of movies that I watched. It isn't a summary of each movie and don't worry, no major spoilers.
The Order (2003, Heath Ledger, Horror [according to imdb.com], R) - I actually enjoyed this movie a lot. I had a tiny problem with the fact that they glossed over something that I considered key to the story in order to keep it moving. But otherwise, I thought it was very well done and definitely a must rent.
Batman & Robin (1997, George Clooney, Action/Adventure, PG-13) - Pretty enjoyable, all things considered. I spent the first 10 minutes rolling my eyes going "Oh, good Lord", hoping it got better. Luckily, I thought it did. Poison Ivy was lots of fun (and, imo, reminiscent of some of the females from the movies in the '50s and '60s). And enjoyed John Glover for the bit part that he has in the movie. Not my favorite of the three Batman movies I've seen (haven't seen Batman Returns yet). And, just out of curiosity, why is it that Joel Schumacher + Batman = dayglo? I think I would recommend it, if you were going through Batman withdrawl while waiting for the next one.
Dragonheart (1996, Dennis Quaid, Action/Adventure, PG-13) - See first sentence in commentary above. On the upside - it had Dennis Quaid, Sean Connery, and Pete Postlethwaite. But you gotta love this part of the summary that's on the box in Blockbuster - "A boy and his dragon unite to fight evil in this fantasy." Dennis Quaid is *so* not a boy in this, and I hesitate to say that Draco is "his" dragon in any sense of the word. Don't think I'd recommend it.
Feel free to agree or disagree with me.

Date: 2004-04-26 12:38 pm (UTC)A couple of years ago I got into a crazy, mad movie renting cycle. I was renting 2-4 a week, every week. I was a member of the rewards program at Blockbuster & it paid for itself before I could blink.
