My mom gave me a nasel squeeze bottle that John didn't need and I used it tonight when I got home. I'm pretty sure more water went straight into the sink than through my nose, but it'll get better.

Even though I boiled the water and was careful, now I'm afraid that somehow something's going to go wrong even though I was careful. *sigh*

Any idea when I should really start worrying?

Do you have saline powder to put into the water? You can buy some at any drug store. I just use warm tap water. You can also buy prepared Arm and Hammer Simply Saline Sterile Saline Nasal Mist. That is good stuff. My nose was so sore and this helped.
Hard to do harm with this stuff.

I do - the squeeze bottle came with a box of that brand's saline powder. And throughout the booklet, it said to use only their powder because it was the best for your nose/sinuses, and I couldn't help thinking, "what about the others? they have to be good too or they wouldn't be out there." So I think I'll get some of that stuff when I run out of what I've got.

And I know it's hard to do harm, but I'm sure you know how it goes - you hear something like "bacteria will eat your brain!" enough and you start to worry about the littlest things. :-P

The first time I used it, I was so stuffed up, I felt the same way. I also got the best night's sleep I ever had.

I always used distilled water. I did the boiled water thing at the beginning, but it's just easier with the distilled.

Good to know I'm not the only one who worried/worries. But things do feel much clearer, even if there's still some stuff in there.

I'll get some distilled water this weekend when I go shopping.

How do you clean your bottle? Because the directions for mine seem a bit at odds, since they say to rinse with running water, then clean with distilled water and dishsoap, then rinse out but don't specify with what. And it seems like a lot of work.

I just use regular hot water to wash it out and let it air dry. And I don't do it every time, honestly. The tip I do, but the bottle itself I clean every two or so uses and just let it air dry in between.

I've never used distilled or boiled water, just hot/warm straight from the tap. And I've always just non-iodized table salt from the supermarket! I don't think you need to worry at all. We snort water up our noses in the shower and while swimming all the time. It definitely gets easier with time.

Interesting. And with the amount of water I've gotten up my nose/in my sinuses due to the swimming pool or the ocean, you'd think I'd know better than to worry a bit about some boiled tap water. :-P But when there've been a few things saying "Bacteria will eat your brain! There have been deaths!" it's like...ummm.... :-) And today was better than yesterday.

It's to help clear the snot/gunk/mucus/whathaveyou out of your sinuses. And things are definitely getting better. The snot level's been at annoying as hell for a while now, so it's nice to know I'm in the process of clearing the excess out.
