Two of the (many, but progressively dimishing) things that I've been wanting to use up in the kitchen are two cans of salmon. It's fairly common knowledge that while I don't like seafood, canned salmon is one of the few things I will eat (along with canned tuna, popcorn shrimp, and fish sticks/sandwiches - all of which most of my family will insist are not real seafood). In any case, I got my grammy's salmon cake recipe today from her while we were running errands and I used up the salmon.
I wish canned salmon was like canned tuna, because having to still clean some of the skin off of the fish and make sure the bones were out is disgusting, and reinforces my desire to not handle seafood - or eat it. Though, once I added all other the stuff to the meat and mixed it together, I was okay because it was a smell I was used to. (I've never seen my grammy make them before.) And now I have two in the fridge for dinner tomorrow and the rest are in the freezer for future dinners.
I'm just surprised my hands still smell fishy hours after I've finished with the salmon cakes, and after washing my hands a number of times as I cooked a few other things.
