Nov. 9th, 2010 11:19 pmI need a new bed. The one I have is quite old and it's past time.
My problem is that I don't know what to look for in a mattress. I have an idea about the firmness, but without being able to bring one home and trying it for a few nights, I don't know how much good laying on one for a few minutes would do.
Any suggestions?

Date: 2010-11-10 07:16 pm (UTC)Your best bet is to go to a store and try different mattresses out. However, don't just lay on it for a minute or two, give it a full 5 to 10 minutes. Lay down exactly how you'd normally sleep. Does anything pinch/feel awkward/too stiff/too soft/etc? If so, move up or down in comfort.
Keep in mind, it's always easier to make a mattress softer than it is to firm it up. Also, firm doesn't always equal more support. Usually a medium comfort will work for most people.
My suggestion would be to go to a local store and try out a few mattresses. Find one or two you like. Write down the name (ie Sealy Posturepedic Hope Mills Firm), any information (coil count, latex or memory foam, etc) that's available and price for the size you're looking for then check out US-Mattress.com. More than likely, you won't be able to make a direct name match. Mattress manufacturers give the same exact mattress different names at each store to make matching difficult. However, you can call us directly at 800-455-1052 (or just drop me a line) and our reps can help you find the match we carry.
We also have a 100 night guarantee so you CAN actually sleep on your mattress and try it out. If you don't like it, you can exchange it (there is a $99 fee, double check the details on the site) for a different one.
If you have specific questions on brands, types or anything, just let me know. I know a fair amount about the product but anything I don't know I can ask our mattress buyer....he sits next to me. :)
