Oct. 5th, 2009 11:10 pmMy dad and granddad are on their October fishing trip to Canada this week. (They've gone twice a year for as long as I can remember). Yesterday, I called my grammy and told her I'd take her out to dinner tonight and to think of where she'd like to go. She was surprised and delighted and told me that she didn't care and for me to think too.
When I went to pick her up, I asked her where she wanted to go and she said she didn't care. So we went back and forth for a while before I said, slightly exasperated, "I'll get subs and we can eat here, if you want." And she replied, "Ooh, an Italian hoagie sounds good."
So I got subs for us from a local sub shop and we ate at her place. It was a nice evening and I enjoyed it. Even if she was surprised that I wouldn't let her pay for dinner and she said, "Your grandfather's not going to be happy that you paid." (I doubt he really will be. I'm sure he'll tell me I shouldn't have paid, but whatever.) I waved it off and told her, "You're always making dinner for me or treating me, and I wanted to do this for you."
