May. 16th, 2009 11:55 pmToday I went to
anaidiana and
xtrodom's wedding. It was a beautiful wedding and reception and I had a lot of fun. I got to see some people I haven't seen since high school. And
drdeath and her boyfriend are over from England.
And I got to dance a bolero with
wookiemonster,
anaidiana's brother. I even asked him to dance. And I did a lot of other dancing with some of the girls in
anaidiana's music fraternity. (Many thanks to Hay Fever cast for helping me feel less self-conscious.)
You have to love a group of people who love music. The DJ was playing music from the time the cocktail hour started through the rest of the night and during dinner, he played "Sweet Caroline". And practically everyone sang along.

Date: 2009-05-18 04:10 pm (UTC)That's really cool. Before my Dad was married, he used to win prizes for ballroom dancing. (as well as hockey AND figure skating pairs!)
I've always wanted to try it, but sadly, J. can't follow the rhythm. =>}

Date: 2009-05-19 03:36 am (UTC)I'm sure there are ways around that if you really wanted to try - I know that a lot of places that take individuals for classes and they usually do a fairly comprehensive format (aka, you learn the basics for most of the "big" dances - waltz, tango, foxtrot, swing, cha-cha, salsa, etc.). At least that way you can give it a try and see what you do/don't like and have some fun.
And usually I have a horrible time following rhythm too. I hear it, but it feels like I process it differently than other people do. (Which is why I'm glad I'm a girl, so I can have someone lead me! :-D)

Date: 2009-05-19 03:49 pm (UTC)Oh, I won't be trying it with J. anytime soon. *g*
I even have to lead in a slow dance. LOL!
It's funny, because he loves classical music and can spot the composer almost immediately, but when I ask him to hear the rhythm in a dance tune, like one, two, three or one, two, three, four, he can't! Go figure. =>}
