sam_gamgeeWell, we're a couple days into DelaWorld - which is new student orientation for freshmen and transfers coming in the fall. It started on Tuesday and runs for about a month. We don't get a lot of it in our store, since we're not in the main building where most of the events are held, but we do get some business as people wander around campus and/or take tours.
We also do a spirit thing where one family a day gets awarded a shopping spree. At the end of DelaWorld, they all submit photos which get voted on by the public and whoever gets the most votes, gets free books for the fall semester. It's fun seeing the families come in because they're excited, but not sure what's going on.
I also did my "Why we're the Blue Hens" schpeil today too. (This question doesn't get asked a lot, but it does come up from time to time.) For those who are interested, it goes something like this. The University of Delaware adopted the Blue Hen as its mascot because during the Revolutionary War, the Delaware militia kept Blue Hen chickens (yes, that is the real name of the bird) as gamecocks because the birds were such fierce fighters. The militia garnered a reputation as fierce fighters and were given that as a nickname.
