So my friend Kwame got picked in the 1st round draft of the NFL by #26 - the San Francisco 49ers. Here's a link to the article that was on the front page of the News Journal on Saturday. Yay!
And another friend - Penny - gave birth to a baby girl back on April 7th, named Maeve Shana. She was 20 1/4 inches and 6 lbs, 15 oz.
Okay, so my mother.... I love my mother, I really do, but sometimes I have to wonder about her.
Like, she went away last week to go to San Francisco with her boyfriend, John. (She and my dad got divorced early last year and she and John have been living together since Jan/Feb of last year.) So she calls our place at about 12:30 on Friday night, just after my dad and I had gone to bed (I was actually being good that night), waking us up, looking for my brother, who was - of course - not home. She finally hangs up and we go back to bed. She call back about half an hour later (now 1 am), asking for Chase's cell phone # - which my dad has given her. So he gave it to her again and hangs up. We find out the next morning when my dad goes to make sure that Chase is up for work and all that she called because they were in Reno, Nevada (why, I don't know), and John had proposed to her and she accepted and she wanted to know if my brother thought that they should get married there in Reno, or wait until they got home (they were coming home on the 27th) to get married. From what I could tell, he told her he didn't care and that they didn't have a very long conversation. (Their relationship's rather strained because my mom lied about a bunch of stuff to Chase early on in this whole thing.) Then my mom called me about 12 hours later (so midday on Sat), to tell me and see what I thought. I told her that I thought it was kinda weird (that's kinda my catch-phrase with things dealing with my mom lately - everything's "kinda weird"), but that I thought that they should wait until they got back to get married (kinda hoping that the extra time would make her think about what was going on and not hurry off and do anything stupid).
I also feel pretty bad for my dad because he had to hear all of this stuff from Chase and I. Not that my mom should ask his permission or anything, I just think that she should've at least said something to the effect of "I just wanted to let you know what was going on". She did finally call him and all, but that was tonight (Sunday) and left a message on the machine. Then she called me to let me know that they were home and to talk about it a little more. Luckily, they didn't get married in Reno. But they are going to go through with it soon - although a date hasn't been set yet. I told her that I was upset about how she was treating my dad because they had been married about 23 years, and then had been together for a while before that. And she told me that she had left a message and asked where he was. When I told her that he had gone to Phoenix until Thursday night for business stuff, she asked for his phone # there, so hopefully something good will happen there.
I'm just curious how my graduation party's going to turn out, since I'm sure my mom's going to bring John with her, and I know that at least my brother, dad, and paternal grandmom won't be too happy about that. (Although my Grammy's more upset because she thinks that my mom isn't going about this in the wisest fashing more than anything else.) But I promised myself when this whole thing started that I wasn't going to let myself take sides and stuff, so if she wants to bring him, okay.
Added to that is the fact that I'm inviting a friend of mine from school and his boyfriend. Now, my mom and dad know my friend's gay, but they don't know that he has a boyfriend. (And at least my parents and my dad's parents are on the left side of center - although my dad seems cooler than my mom and my grandparents about it, so we'll see.)
