I love my covenant (small) group. I really do. But sometimes the discrepancy in ages (I'm a good 30-ish years younger than them) really shows.
Like, tonight's study was on discerning false spirits and one member insinutated that Heath Ledger died because of Brokeback Mountain. He didn't actually come out and say it and it didn't really have any bearing on what we were talking about, so I didn't say anything because I didn't want to get farther off topic.
*shakes head*
I mean - *seriously*???
I have no words.

Date: 2008-01-26 04:34 am (UTC)Jesus totally would. I think that if Jesus was around now, the LGBT? community would be one of the groups He'd be hanging out with.
I had to set them straight on what'd happened (well, what we know so far of what happened), since I've been keeping up with all that. And they brought up about his "love child" (their words) and I had to explain that the engagement had been broken off too.
I just... *shakes head* I really wanted to say, "Well, if this is because he played a gay character, why isn't Jake Gyllenhaal dead yet?"

Date: 2008-01-26 01:49 pm (UTC)Yes, and why didn't Heath die twelve years ago? He played a gay cyclist in Sweat; and he was sixteen at the time, you'd think that's when he'd have a reaction to playing a gay character. Seriously, if he had issues right now, they weren't about Brokeback Mountain.
*squishes you*

Date: 2008-01-27 04:06 am (UTC)I figure that if God didn't want gays around, then He wouldn't have allowed it to be a part of our genetic make-up because, honestly, it messes with the whole "go forth and multiply" command (not that we're having any problems with that as it is).
I wouldn't be surprised if, when Jerry Falwell, et al. get to Heaven, God's like, "Yeah, so you know that Second Commandment - the whole 'love your neighbor as yourself'? What part of that exactly didn't you get?"
