I was a little late for church this morning, but only by about five minutes. After the service, I, and a couple other deacons talked to some of the 7th and 8th graders about what the deacons in our church do. They were about as quiet and unresponsive as I remember my Sunday School class being at that age. I had to leave that a couple minutes early to help my dad finish setting up for coffee hour (even though he had most of it set up already). All two dozen cupcakes, as well as the bag of Goldfish, were gone pretty quickly when the kids started drifting in, but I had kind of figured that it would.

It's sad when I go to my alternate Panera and order my usual and the girl making my drink (who wasn't the one who took my order) said, "Oh, it's you" when she saw me (and heard me ask for no straw or lid). Apparently, I'm something of a regular there too. Maybe I should start ordering something different to see if that stumps them.

I picked up Emily, who's one of the student workers, early this afternoon and we went up to Delaware Theatre Company to see The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged). I had been planning on going anyway, but earlier this week, the subject of Shakespeare came up when Emily asked me what the Shakespeare class was like, since she's taking Shakespeare over Winter Session. After telling her about my experience with the class, I invited her to come along with me, figuring we'd have a fun afternoon and, since it seemed like she was a little nervous about the whole Shakespeare thing, this could hopefully help break the ice for her. I had seen the show way back when when I was a freshman and had really enjoyed it and this time I had the added bonus of seeing a fellow alumni in the show. (Jeffrey Hawkins was an acting grad in PTTP when I was doing my undergrad.)

We had a great time and we both loved it. And Jeffrey was just as amazing as I remember him being - and now I want to see him play the role of Hamlet for real. (He's the reason I fell in love with Brian Friel and his play Translations.) Afterwards, we hung around and I got to say hi to Jeffrey - who, upon seeing me, did a double take and said, "Oh my God, how are you?" before giving me a hug. Then he was like, "Aren't you supposed to be on a trip or something?" (Now, I haven't seen or spoken to him in 4 years.) I laughed and said, "Well, I went to London, but other than that, I've been around aside from family trips - things like that." It was good seeing him again.

I was going to do Christmas cards tonight - and I did get started - but they didn't get very far.
