Military inadvertently recruits gays

The Army, Navy and Air Force unwittingly advertised for recruits on a website for gays, who are barred from military service if they are open about their sexual orientation.

When informed Tuesday by USA TODAY that they were advertising on GLEE.com, a networking website for gay professionals, recruiters expressed surprise and said they would remove the job listings.

Given the fact that the military wouldn't be in this position with some of its job openings if it hadn't fired the gays in the first place, you'd think they'd want them back. And given that there are many gays who would willingly serve if they could....

And maybe USA Today shouldn't have alerted them. Then maybe the military might realize that (*gasp*) gays really aren't a threat.

Oddly enough, most of the actual soldiers I know don't care that much one way or the other if some person in their unit is gay. They're a lot more concerned about whether that person will have their back in a fire-fight.

It's the politicians (and the upper brass in the Pentagon who are often politicians at heart) who are so bent out of shape about gays in the military.

I wish people would get out of other people's business. *sigh*

This is very true. And most of the soldiers I know of are the same way too.

And you would think it would be the other way around for the politicians. As a history professor explained when talking about the "Sacred Band of Thebes" (which was made up of 150 gay couples) - "the reasoning was they'd fight better if they were screwing each other."

*said with mock sincerity* But then what would they have to do all day while they're filibustering each other?
