As
spikesleman would say, "I'm committing poetry!"
I actually wrote this a while back after realizing that, in most of the groups I'm in, the younger female members have longer hair. (For those of you who don't know, my hair is down to about the middle of my butt.) And while there's probably no real significance to this, I thought it was interesting. And somehow, I started writing...well...this.
I just kept forgetting to post it. But I thought it might be a good idea to do it now:
a) to get it out there and
b) as a kind of way to hopefully raise a little bit of awareness about April being National Sexual Assualt Awareness Month* (even if it is a little late in the month).
Anyway, onto the poem.
I wear my hair long
to honor Rebecca, Dinah, and Ruth.
I wear my hair long
to remember the Amazons.
I wear my hair long
to harken the women of old - Guinevere and St. Joan.
I wear my hair long
not out of submission to an older generation.
I wear my hair long
not out of fear of "maybe...".
I wear my hair long
not to give them an excuse.
I wear my hair long
as a sign of strength.
I wear my hair long.
* I posted this site, because I've found it to be particularly helpful.
