So I'm working on a scarf in stockinette stitch for a Christmas present and it's curling like crazy on the sides and slightly on the bottom. And I'm at a loss for how to get it to lie flat. Is there anyone who could please give me some advice/tips on how to fix this? And should I sew in the yarn tails (since I'm using a couple of different colors) before or after I do whatever it is I need to do? Or does it not matter?

Thanks very much!

Stockinette stitch ALWAYS curls and there's no cure for it except to do garter stitch up the edges or choose another pattern, like the seed pattern.

I stopped using the stockinette stitch for scarves a long time ago.

If you've already done a lot and don't want to undo it, I'm guessing that you're stuck with it like that. You could try pressing it under a tea towel, but I don't know how long this would last.

I always sew in all the yarn "tails" at the end of the project.

If you like working in stockinette, dear, what you can do next time is put a few knitted stitches (like four) at the beginning and end of each purled row. This will create a pretty garter border :) I always sew in the yarn tails at the end too.
