Before I forget *yet* *again*, I think you should all rent The 24th Day. I had rented it a while back and it's just phenomenal. I've also recently seen Priest and Wilby Wonderful - both of which are also very high on my recommendation list (though, the first two aren't very light or fluffy).

I'm rather happy with myself - I've been doing quite good with being disciplined and writing every day. I'm not sure how long it'll last, but so far so good.

Today was my dad's 50th birthday. When he and my grandparents got home from their week and three-quarters road trip this evening, we had a barbeque with our neighbors and my brother got some crabs.

I went and saw Batman Begins again today. (Yes, this was the fourth time.) And each time I keep thinking that I'm going to make some coherent post about it, but so far, it ain't happening. All I can say is that I completely love the whole thing - from beginning to end. And I think it's interesting that Rachel isn't his love interest and is basically disqualified from that position - because he tells her when they're in the Narrows who his other identity is and I'm okay with that. Actually, I think I even prefer it this way. (Not that I have anything against comic book love interests, but....) And I like the quote she has near the end - something like, "No, Bruce, this is your mask. Your real face is the one that criminals now fear." And Hans Zimmer (Batman Begins, Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, among many others) just kicks ass. I love his scores. Along with John Williams and the sound crew from the LotR movies, he's one of the reasons why I want to do sound stuff.

And I did enjoy seeing the War of the Worlds trailer again after having seen the movie on Wednesday. (Definitely recommend it - the visuals are stunning and, even though I'm not familiar with the story, I thought it was well done, plot-wise.) Still no Serenity trailer. Well, at least I got to see it once. And, I have to say, I do like the first few seconds of the Dukes of Hazard trailer - where they're in the car with the music. And, is it just me, or does the last frame look like it was ripped from the TFATF title credits? And, dude, considering how many times I've seen the Stealth trailer, that movie better be good.

And now for some quotage:
I'm sure you writers will appreciate this one - "Ideas are like rabbits. You get a couple and learn how to handle them, and pretty soon you have a dozen." - John Steinback

Gabrielle Union doing a free association in "People" - (about Elton John and David Furnish getting married) "He's making an honest man out of him."

Yay for the droppage of weight. At the moment, I'm retaining fluid at an alarming rate (gonna see the doctor about it next week) and have "gained" (I say that in quotation marks because I refuse to believe it's *real* gainage -- it's fluid, darn it, until proven otherwise!)6 pounds in the last three weeks. Something is way whacked with me.

Jim and I saw "The War of the Worlds" tonight. No doubt I'll drone on and on about it in my LJ but briefly: I liked it. I still can't stand Tom Cruise and can say that I truly believed him only one time, when he was trying to sing "Little Deuce Coupe" to Rachel.

The mere thought of "The Dukes of Hazzard" is a hazard to my mental health. I detested that show when it was a cheesy 1980s television crapfest and I suspect that only the addition of James Marsters -- naked --full frontal -- tap dancing --for, oh maybe a full hour of screen-time would force me to see the film.

I can't wait for "Serenity." *Wiggles with Nathan Fillion/Adam Baldwin/Ron Glass lust* Clearly I like my men off-kilter a tad and not so much your classically handsome Hero or pretty boy.

And a huge standing O for the writing.

((hugs))

Well, I gained 4 in one week. Go figure there. I know I wasn't perfect that week, but still....

Yeah, I really don't care about Tom Cruise for the most part (and never really got the attraction, but then again, you look at most of the guys I'm attracted to - *so* not mainstream), but I enjoyed the movie. :-)

Yeah, I don't really care about the Dukes of Hazzard movie either, I just liked how the beginning of the trailer looked. :-P

I can't wait for Serenity either! Eee! Well, I guess that means that I get Sean Maher all to myself then, right? *snatches up Alan Tudyk as well*

Thanks about the writing. :-D I'm trying to get some things done before November, because I want to do NaNoWriMo this year and I want to discipline myself to doing it every night beforehand. So, we'll see how that goes.

And Kath and I are trying to go see "Spamalot" on August 20th. *If* we can get tickets, do you think you'll be able to go?

Well, I guess that means that I get Sean Maher all to myself then, right? *snatches up Alan Tudyk as well* Yes, indeedy, you may have all the Sean Maher you can possibly stand. I might give you a tussle for Alan T. though. (thoughtful pause) Nah, I'll keep Fillion and Glass and you can have Maher and Tudyk (whose name I can NEVER remember!)

Argh. I want to go so badly but just this week it became clear that I was going to have to bear considerably more than half the cost of Jeremy's and my trip to Washington in early September. I just don't have the money left. *whine* *whine* Be sure you post all about it so I can wither and die of Tim Curry-induced lust.

:-( That's too bad about not being able to go. But I hope that you and Jeremy will have a great time in D.C.

Yeah. It's a pain in my ruddy kidney that I have to make this kind of choice. I need to win a nice big lottery so I won't have to make these choices. (Sadly, that's just a joke. Jim would make me give the money back if I won a lottery. Gambling = badness to him. *sigh*)

I'll tell you, though, if Jeremy cancels I'm apt to give the boy a demonstration of Ragis Maternalis that will leave him shaking in his dainty little Army boots.
