Oh, good Lord.
Had this phone conversation with my mom a little while ago:
Mom: "What're you doing?"
Me: "Checking email and writing."
Mom: "What're you writing?"
Me: "A sci-fi sort of thing." (Because how do I tell her I'm writing a Graham/Xander fanfic?)
Mom: "Can I read the last thing you wrote? I haven't read anything you've written in a long time."
Me: "Yeah, let me find it." (While thinking how to get out of it, since the last thing I wrote was the Xandrew fic)
Now, my mom's rather naive about some things (she didn't know what a menage a trois was until she was about 40) and rather conservative (she was actually afraid that I would turn gay when she found out I had a gay male friend), but at the same time can be rather liberal about other things. So far the extent of her knowledge of me writing slash is that she caught a glimpse of the Wes/Angel (the first slashfic I ever wrote) back in 2001 (I think it was) when I had left it out in my room and she went in to put something away. She didn't really freak out, but a year or so later she was like, "Are you still writing dirty stories?" and I was like, "No," but that's just because I don't think they're dirty. Smutty, sure. Dirty? No.
I told
serafina20 and my friend Helen about it and I kind of came to the conclusion that *maybe* it would be interesting to show her something that I've written recently. They were both like, "write something non-slash quick!" To which I had to respond, "I don't think my brain's hardwired that way anymore!" So now I'm kind of curious as to how she would react if I gave her one of my slash fics.
So, for all of you who've read my fics, if I was to "initiate" my mother, which one should I use? I'm kind of partial to Galileo, just because I'm very proud of it, even if it does have the sex scene right away. But I'm open to any and all suggestions.
