drdeath, her fiance, and I walked around Colchester. We parked down below the Castle Park and walked up. The grounds are really pretty - very green and lots of trees. There's also a little branch of the Colne River that goes through the grounds and we stood on the bridge and watched two male mallards get into a fight. We were going to go into Colchester Castle, but there were a few school groups there, so we decided best not to. (Colchester Castle is a Norman Keep built on top of a Roman Castle in 1076 - about 55 years before the one we saw yesterday.) We did go into the Hollytrees Museum next door - which gave an idea of life in Colchester about 150-200 years ago.
After that, we walked around town for a while and looked in various shops and I picked up some local interest books for my parents and got a nice sweater for my grammy. For lunch, we stopped in Nando's - which is a Portuguese chicken restuarant. And then we all got veggie burgers. But they were home-made and really yummy.
We then went over to the little village of Wivenhoe to see some friends of
drdeath, but they ended up not being home. So we walked around a bit, and then decided to come back.
Tonight, I'm going bowling with
drdeath, her mom,
drdeath's fiance, and his parents. Should be interesting.
