I got new sneakers today!

It's high time I did - the ones I've been wearing are definitely looking worse for wear and since I wear them every day for work, and sometimes more depending on what else is going on....

A friend of mine, M, works at a women's sporting goods store, so I went there to get a pair. I figured that way I could have her help me, because otherwise I'd go, "These look pretty" and end up buying a pair that are completely wrong for me. And, as expected, M asked me a few questions, measured my feet, looked at my sandals and helped me find a pair of Nike sneakers. And she was really sweet and gave me a discount, so I ended up paying about $65 instead of $90.

And I found out a few things about my feet:
1) My left foot is a size 7 and my right is a size 7.5. (Though I wear a size 8.)
2) I'm one of the rare people who walks more on the outside of my feet (aka supination). And that since not many people do it, shoe companies don't really make shoes to help with that.

Do you notice the outsides of your shoes wearing down faster than the insides (on the soles, anyway). I do with mine and it's very slowly driving me insane.

Hey! I supinate as well! And the most readily available mass-market sneaker maker whose shoes kinda help out are New Balance. But outside of NB, they're damn hard to find--and you can't just get any old NB (or other brand name--try ASICS, Saucony or Brooks), you want to look for a "Neutral Cushioning Shoe" because most everything else corrects for pronation to some degree or another.

Um. Okay, I'ma shut up now. But you know, I figured I might as well share some of what I've figured out over the past coupla years with someone!! ;-)

Also, if you want to look for casual/dress shoes that can help try Dansko, Mephisto or Aetrex. The other thing you can do is get some insoles.

Okay. Really stopping this time.

I've noticed when I need to look at my soles, but my reaction is more "huh, that's odd" than anything else. But I have been more conscious of how I've been walking the past few days and I don't feel like I'm walking on the outsides of my feet.

Interesting! Yeah, that's what M was saying - about NB.

But thanks for the info! I'm glad that you were willing to pass that along. And I'll have to look into those other shoes as well. :-D
