Dec. 25th, 2008 11:58 pmMerry Christmas! Happy Hannukah! Happy belated Solstice!
The good for yesterday and today:
- I got off work early yesterday.
- The children's Christmas pagent went really well. (I got drafted to be the narrator.)
- I got practically everything I asked for.
- I got some pretty cool stuff that I didn't ask for - like tickets to see A Chorus Line this Saturday and an iPod Nano.
- I was able to spend some time with my family.
- While at my mom's, we watched National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.
The amusing:
- My dad loves my iPod. He was listening to it while I was in the shower and singing horrendously off-key (which he doesn't usually do, but I think the alcohol he had today finally hit him). The first thing he said to me was, "Why don't you have Don McLean's American Pie on here?"
The bad:
- Yesterday, when I came out of Panera after grabbing some lunch, the first thing I noticed was that my truck was gone and the lot was mostly empty. After my initial "Oh, shit," moment, I realized that my truck was two spots behind where I had parked it. When I got to it, there was a note inside from my brother that said, "Hi, A. <3 Chase" When he mentioned it last night, I asked him what he had needed my truck for and he said, "I took it for a joyride." I told him that I didn't appreciate it because I was scared of what might have happened and Chase told me to chill out and my dad thought it was funny. I finally got an apology from my brother, though my dad kept belaboring the point that what my brother did was funny. And I didn't even know my brother had a key to the truck, so that'll be an objective for me to get or somehow deal with. (He'd gotten it back when the truck was more of the family truck and had never returned it to our dad when the truck became mine.)
- On the way back from our mom's, he decided to do the whole "You need to realize your potential" spiel and this time added in "and you need to stop eating fast food because it's bad for you." (He had apparently seen me pull out of the Arby's between our place and the church - which, I would've been going to because I was rushing to church for a meeting and eating fast food was better to hypoglycemia.) And when I tried to be firm with him and say things like "Okay, Chase" he would get pissed at me for my "attitude" (just like our dad does). And it's like, "dude, what you're saying's not new and I would *love* to a) have a better job, b) lose the weight, etc. But a) *nobody's* hiring right now - or so it seems, b) it's not as easy as that, etc." *Sigh*.
