I watched Hot Fuzz (again) today - this time with the "Fuzz Fact" track on - which was lots of fun. It gave a lot of neat insights in to the movie (as well as action movies in general - they definitely did their homework). I love this movie probably more than I should.

I had dinner with my grandparents tonight, which was nice. Though, my grandfather's cute because he had the Patriots/Chargers game on and we were watching it as we were eating.

After that, I went out to play bingo. (This was put on by Delaware Pride as a fundraiser for AIDs Delaware.) It was a lot of fun. I haven't played bingo since I was little. I even saw some guys I know and haven't seen in years.

And I got called for Jury Duty. I love that they say that if you're being summond for a capital murder trial, to avoid hearing about it at all costs, but they don't tell you which one...what if, somehow, there was more than one going on at the same time?

I also love that in the questionnaire, ond of the comments is "If you are not a citizen, you must present your Green card or other legal documentation".

So, the envelope that Jury Services gave me to mail back my questionnaire in has its address both in the To: field and the From: field, and yet wants me to put a stamp on it. I'm half tempted to just stick it in the box and see what happens.

It is a little ridiculous that they expect you to pay postage for that. I got really lucky when I got called. I got passed over for the huge malpractice lawsuit that took weeks and weeks. Got stuck for a week for a home invasion/ armed robbery instead. It was sort of interesting, although the day-to-day listening to all the 'evidence' was pretty boring. Lawyers must think jurists are stupid. Like waving a mask around, over and over, saying "He wore a mask much like this one, like the fact that it wasn't the actual mask made any difference.

Are you going to 'do your duty' or try to get out of it?

Mmmm, Hot Fuzz. I should watch that again soon.

LOL! That's so twisted.

Mmmh, being called for jury duty...I've gone through that!! To be fair, considering I work for a law firm and I was working on my paralegal certificate when I was summoned, I was a bit disappointed I didn't get called for a trial. Yes, I realize this makes me a legal geek....

It always amazes me how TPTB (in whatever situation) tend to think the rest of us are stupid. *shakes head*

I'm willing to do my duty, but I think that if I even get that far (I'm in group #25, I think), I'm going to tell them honestly that I don't see how they expect me to steer clear from all news and that, given the lag in the court's docket and the media's desire for sensationalism and the fact that they haven't told me anything regarding the trial, I don't see how I can be a fair juror.

Yes, Hot Fuzz is so much fun. :-D

I think every county does it differently, but for me, I was 'on call' for two weeks and had to call a number every night to see if I should report the next day. I got called twice. They took our group in and we heard what the case was and then they ask questions: have you read about this case? Do you know anyone involved? Is there any reason you think you wouldn't be able to be a impartial juror (maybe the same crime happened to you or someone you know, etc). I possibly got eliminated the first time because I've worked in the medical field. Sometimes they eliminate by age or sex (depending on what kind of jury each lawyer is trying to skew to his advantage)

That said, I've heard of people going in for one day and if they're not called that's it. So, who knows. Good luck! When do you have to report?

Well, I know I have to call the night before, and then show up the next day if they need me. I believe that after that, if I'm not picked, I just go back into the general pool.

I have to go in on February 5th. Report time's 8:30 am. (Yuck!)

I hope you have an amazingly awesome time this weekend! :-D (*tries not to be too jealous*)

:-) He's such a sweetheart. And, honestly, I was expecting to enjoy hearing him, based on what I've heard from you and other people, not to fall head over feet for him! :-D
