Nov. 5th, 2011 11:49 pmI had a great time yesterday!
I left for Frederick, MD, right after work yesterday and I'm glad I got out early, with having to deal with Baltimore's Friday traffic on I695. I met up with
eternalmusings,
gblvr,
wolfshark, and Mr. Sharkie at the Olive Garden. We had a good dinner and a good time talking about all sorts of things.
Trying to park in the theatre's parking garage was an experience and a half, but we finally found spots - on the roof. The theatre itself (technically the Weinberg Center for the Arts), is a nice place. There weren't as many people as I thought there would be. (I honestly thought it would be sold out, and it wasn't). And it was also a "Listener Appreciation" concert by WFRE, the local country station. We arrived about 7:50, and were able to get seats in the middle on the floor, near the back. In front of us was a mom, dad, and son (who looked about 15). The parents looked like they were there for a bit of culture and you could tell the son didn't want to be there - mainly because he played on his gameboy the entire time. In front of them was a mom with three girls - one about 13 or 14 and the other two maybe 10-11? The two younger ones were standing on their chairs and dancing the whole time and one of them held her hands in the shape of a heart most of the time.
Brian Nutter was the opening act. He did a few of his own songs, and a cover of John Mellencamp's "Pink Houses" - which Christian joined him on.
Then Christian and the rest of the guys came on. They did a bunch of songs from The House Rules, along with "Middle America Saturday Night", two covers - one of a Trace Adkins song and one of a Waylon Jennings son, and a couple songs I'd never heard before. (And to some extent which you could say I still didn't hear because the acoustics weren't balanced right and by the end of the show, it was kind of hard to understand. You can still have a loud, rocking show and be able to understand the words.) And
eternalmusings and I had a good laugh because Christian introduced one of the songs as being about a "red-headed stripper from Oklahoma City", and we heard it was about a "*red-neck* stripper from Oklahoma City".
And we had a laugh over the amount of ass-smacking done by Christian. On Jason, his lead guitarist. And Steve. But mostly Jason. And also Christian grabbbing Jason's hair at one point and holding their foreheads together while Jason played. And also the bassist getting up on the drumming platform and Steve getting downstage of him so he could lean back against him. Sometimes it just writes itself.
Overall, it was a very fun, great time. :-D
