May. 3rd, 2006 11:50 pmFirst off, some movies I feel required to pimp (in no particular order):
Almost Normal - it's like a gay "Back to the Future meets Pleasantville". It's quite cute and very entertaining.
The Fisher King - I'd been meaning to see this one for *years* and finally did over the weekend. Robin Williams was fantastic - as always. And who knew Jeff Bridges was so sexy in 1991?
Rent - If for nothing else, see it so you can listen to the music. The vocals are *amazing*. The male harmonies were incredible. And Jesse Martin has a Dr. Frank-N-Furter kind of voice. I think
spikesleman and
libralyte would really enjoy listening to him.
Secondly:
I've had to do a bunch of book signings over the past month and a half - most of which, sadly, were rather boring. But the two most recent ones were actually quite fun.
The first one was yesterday (Tuesday) and it was for Anthony Rapp and he was promoting his book, Without You: A Memoir of Love, Loss, and the Musical Rent. There were 800+ people there, and I sold 62 books in about an hour and had a couple more requests for it. (Statistically speaking, for us, this is *very* good for a book signing.) Anthony talked a bit, read part of his book, took some questions, sang most of "Seasons of Love", and then signed autographs. I had him sign my autograph notebook and while he was doing so, I thanked him for being there and for being so open and in reply, he thanked me a few times.
The second one was tonight (Wednesday) and it was for Esera Tuaolo and his book, Alone in the Trenches: My Life as a Gay Man in the NFL. For those of you who have met Andy Hallett, think of someone who's a little more ethnic looking, somewhat more solid and stable, and that's Esera. He talked about his experencies some, sang some (and he has a beautiful voice too - not something you'd expect from an ex-defensive player), took some questions, and signed his books. I got to talk to him for a couple minutes and he seems like a really cool guy. And when he, Jared, Drew, and I went outside afterwards, he was like, "Hold on, I have to call my husband." (They've been together just shy of ten years and adopted twins, one boy and one girl, who are either 5 or 6 at this point.)
I'm almost positive I had some other things to say, but there's no way I'm remembering at this point. Although, I'm sure this picture will be of amusement to many of you.
