Am very worried.

My dog Shadow, who's 11, hasn't been feeling good the past few days. I first noticed it on Wednesday when she'd didn't eat as much as usual (though, her appetite's been on the smaller side for a while and she'll eat a bit at a time, so I didn't think too much of it). Then Thursday she ate hardly anything and was moving around like she was aching all over and when I took her and Patch (our other dog) outside, her stool was on the liquidy side. So I gave her a baby aspirin and that seemed to perk her up a bit for a few hours. Then, when I got home from work today (Friday), there was a note from my dad saying he had taken her to the vet down the street (who's not our normal vet, since our normal one was closed for the day).

When they came home over an hour later, it turns out she's got some internal bleeding and the vet's not too sure where. So there were two options - surgery or medicine. My dad took the meds option. Which I think is good, since Shadow's very picky about things and, even if she has to take meds, I'm sure she'd rather be at home.

So now we're doing the finger-crossing-"Let's-hope-these-meds-work" thing.

Thanks and *hugs* to everyone that responsed to my last post.

Last night after I posted, I went to take the dogs out and had to literally pull Shadow of her house (what we call Shadow and Patch's dog pens). She tried to get up, but she just couldn't. Then, this morning, my dad said that she wouldn't even take her medicine, so he took her to our vet to be put to sleep.

Dad said that the vet told him that black cockers are suspetible to an autoimmune thing where their immune system turns on them and starts attacking their body and that that's what was happening with Shadow. Dad also said that there were some dark spots under her two of her legs which the vet had said were blood. And the vet also said that he was really surprised because he remembered seeing her about two weeks ago when I took them in for their annual check-up and how healthy she was then.

I know that it's better this way because now she's not in any pain and won't be suffering like Shannon* was, but it's still really, really hard.



*Shannon was the first dog we had, a black lab, that was 14 when we had her put down and she had been slowly deteriorating over the course of a couple years.
